Course Overview EVERYDAY MATERIALS Text book, 2-pocket folder, blue or black pen, paper, single subject notebook, and planner FOLDER/NOTEBOOK Left pocket: blank paper and current chapter’s work Right pocket: previous chapter’s work Daily notes should be kept in notebook HOMEWORK NO LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE ACCEPTED. You can expect homework every night. Homework will be checked for a grade. It will either be collected the day after it is assigned or it will be checked. Sometimes, your homework will be to read. A quiz may follow to check your reading comprehension. You will also be expected to keep up with current events/news. CURRENT EVENTS You will need to do several current events each quarter. The current events will be assigned at the beginning of the week and will be due on Friday of that week. Students will choose a current event that in some way connects to our class. To receive full credit all current events must be completed in the following way: 1. Cut or print out the article from the newspaper or internet, 2. Attach the article to the back of a notebook piece of paper, 3. Write one paragraph summarizing the article and one paragraph giving your opinion of the article (Each paragraph needs to be a minimum of five sentences). You should understand the events that are being discussed in your article. If you do not, ask for help prior to the due date. *Google Docs will be explained by individual teacher. GRADES Grades will be determined by dividing your points by the possible amount of points in class. Included in the points possible will be homework, class work, quizzes, tests, and study-guide packets. *Students are responsible for keeping up with power school. Grades should NEVER be a surprise! 9th GRADE HONORS WORLD HISTORY Your placement in 9th grade Honors World History requires an (A) for both the first and second quarter grades in 8th grade US Studies and 8th grade Language Arts. Test scores, homework completion, and class participation will also be considered. ABSENT If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out the work you need to make up. All work, including tests and quizzes, must be made up within the number of days you were absent. CLASS RULES Each student is expected to follow the school rules and posted classroom rules. We will work on a three-strike discipline plan: 1st offense warning 2nd offense writing assignment 3rd offense detention/referral I am always available for extra help. Just ask!!!
